Business Marketing Visuals and Why You Need Them

Business owners are often baffled by the term “business marketing visuals” and they’re left wondering why they would ever need such a beast.  In fact you as a business owner do need them as part of a marketing strategy, so here is an explanation of what they are and why you need them.

What are business marketing visuals?

Business marketing visuals are simply marketing material that relies more on images than it does the written word.  Have you ever looked something up on the internet and came to a page that was a solid wall of text?  The thought of slogging through all that text makes you cringe a little inside and it feels like your back in school doing homework.

That feeling sums up why you should being using visuals in your marketing plans.  They are memorable and provide a lot of information in an instant, a picture is worth a thousand words.  Visitors to your website have pretty short attention spans and if they can’t find what they are looking for quickly, they are out of there and gone forever.  It is easier to show them what they are looking for, using pictures, charts or infographics, it keeps them engaged and on your site longer.  You want them engaged so they keep coming back again and again.

Another perk of using visuals is they are more likely to go viral, videos, infographics, clever memes and cartoon images get shared far more often.  Here is a video from Ted talks that explains why videos go viral.

Here are some of the different kinds of visuals and how you can use them in your marketing plan:

  1. Graphs & Charts

Statistics are dry and boring and it’s a pretty quick way of putting your audience to sleep.  Using images to convey that same information in a pie chart or graph it makes it a whole lot easier to spot trends and absorb the information.  Even complicated statistics with comparisons are much easier to digest in a visual format.  Business have been using this for years and with good reason.

  1. Drawings,Videos and Cartoons

You can take complicated directions and simplify them using illustrations.  There is no concern with complicated language and people for the most part are visual learners.  This is much easier than using step by step written instruction.  Video is an absolutely brilliant tool in your marketing efforts you can use it for everything, in fact explaining how to take advantage of video in marketing is a post unto itself.

  1. Mindmaps

This works really well for things like project management, if you have groups of ideas that don’t require a specific order this is a good way to have an overview without getting bogged down in details.  Readers can focus on the parts that pertain to them while ignoring the rest.

  1. PowerPoints

The go to gadget for presenters the world over.  Power point slides can provide a visual reminder of a point you are trying to explain.  Power point has been a staple in business for years and for good reason.  It works!

  1. Infographics

This is the new kid on the block in business marketing visuals they can take pages of content and boil it down to one visual.  Art, statistics and information all blend together into one graphic that keeps your audience engaged.  They are superb in generating traffic and links to your site when they are well done.

No matter what business you’re in working with a graphic artist to create your business marketing visuals is a must.
